Mary Diez, Dean of the School of Education, was featured on Milwaukee Public Television’s Fourth Street Forum program. She was a member of a four-person panel discussing the vision for urban education - specifically noting the daunting hurdles Milwaukee Public Schools face. New MPS Superintendent, Gregory Thornton, was also featured in the discussion.

U.S. News & World Report Ranks Alverno College First in Midwest of doing “the best job of educating undergrads”


Alverno College was the only Wisconsin college or university listed in the following three categories in U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 America’s Best Colleges guidebook:

  • Internships - Schools nominated must apply what they are learning in the classroom to work in the real world through closely monitored internships.
  • First-Year Experience - Schools nominated were “more determined than others to provide freshmen and all undergrads with the best possible experience.”
  • Senior Capstone - Schools nominated excelled at asking “students nearing the end of their college years to create a project that integrates what they’ve learned.”
Alverno was also ranked in the Service Learning category, in which nominated schools must “require volunteer work in the community as an instructional strategy.”

Overall, Alverno College remained in tier one in the category of Master’s granting colleges and universities.
